Brief Answer:
Rest, intermittent ice compression and pain relievers are some of the other alternatives

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for trusting us with your health-related queries.

I can understand your concern. From what you described, it is not clear for how long have you been experiencing the soreness, whether surgery has been suggested to you as a possible treatment.

If surgery is not an option for you, then the alternative is conservative treatment. Minimal use of the arm, in order to decrease inflammation, is a must. This may be difficult given the situation with your wife, but maybe asking for extra help would be a good idea.

If the soreness is recently developed, you can also use ice packs and painkillers (Eg. Acetaminophen) as needed, depending on the degree of pain and soreness.

I hope this answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
