I Have A Weird Numb Feeling In The Muscle Below

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jan 2020
Question: I have a weird numb feeling in the muscle below my left breast.
It doesn't hurt unless I bend over. 2 days ago I was moving some washing and bending over and got a cramp in the muscle I'm concerned about. I'm concerned it may be a hernia or something worse.
I am an extremely overweight (200kg) female, 36 years old.
I suffer from edema in my legs and lower belly. Pcos. Anxiety and depression.
I take 300mg venlafaxine a day, 500mg metformin, 50mg diclofenac a day.

Brief Answer:
It sounds like a stretched muscle

Detailed Answer:
Hi Kzibell,

It sounds more like a stretched muscle.

Unless you have a scar from previous intraabdominal surgery where you feel the pain, a hernia is very unlikely.

If the pain increases when you move, it sounds like a stretched muscle.

Do you see a lump where the pain is?
Is the pain constant or intermittent? Nausea, change in bowel movements?

Looking forward to hearing from you again.

hi dr Anders no surgery there before. so no scar. no lump either. just a numbness/ache on the skin and the muscle area. no nausea, no change in bowel movements. and the pain is intermittent. hurts when I bend. tender to touch. area of concern: runs across my torso from my sternum across to the area below the armpit sort of. across my ribs. I'll keep an eye on it. should I go see my GP? or will it go away on it's own? is there anything I can do to help it feel better? heat, cool, anything? thanks

Brief Answer:
Time will heal it

Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXXXX

It definitely sounds like a stretched muscle. Some feel pain relief using either cold or heat (frozen peas or heat pads, etc.) or NSAID oinments (e.g. diclofenac). No need to see your GP unless it worsens in any way.

How does this plan sound?
