Question: I am a 74-year old female and for some time have badly disintegrating fingernails. No matter how short I cut them, use topicals (upon the advice of my dermatologist), take biotin and collagen (upon the advice of my primary care physician), there is no improvement at all. My mother had an identical problem, so I wonder if this is hereditary. Furthermore, I am also loosing a lot of hair.
