I Have Been Dealing With Genital Herpes For The Last

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Jun 2019
Question: I have been dealing with genital herpes for the last 35 years or so, most likely received from my first husband, although he was never symptomatic. He passed away 9 years ago, and I remarried last year. My husband and I do not have penetrating sex, but we use vibrators. My outbreaks over the last 35 years were rare--12 to 18 months apart. I have had 3 outbreaks in the last year. I have Acyclovir for the outbreaks, but I'm wondering if it is effective, since my outbreaks are more frequent. Also, if we do not penetrate, how much danger will it be for my husband?

Brief Answer:
Effective during outbreak. can spread through open sore

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, usually tablet acyclovir is effective during genital herpes infection outbreak. Kindly continue medications as advised.

You can also apply acyclovir ointment locally in case of open sore or lesion.

As genital herpes can spread through sexual activity and skin to skin contact also in case of open sore. As this does not survive outside human body, so it does not spread through use of towel etc..

Usually suppressive therapy is recommended in case of 5 to 6 outbreaks in a year. In that you may require tablet acyclovir 400 mg twice a day for one year after detailed medical examination and physician's opinion.

Along with that take balanced diet. Keep your self hydrated. In case of fever, you can take tablet acetaminophen.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further... Thank you.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale
