I Have Been Diagnosed With Essential Thrombocythemia . My Platelet
Question: I have been diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia.
My platelet count has been consistently high since at least January. High being 600,000 for January and February; 700,000 March and April. In May the diagnosis was given and I was prescribed Plavix and then later Hydroxyurea (500mg/dy).
My symptoms included severe dizziness (to the point of not being able to navigate at all or even stand) and nausea sometime accompanied by diarrhea. These episodes were occurring daily and lasting 1-4 hours.
The plavix (along with chiropractic treatments) alleviated the symptoms but did not, of course, lower platelet count. Hydroxyurea was added.
The last blood test in early August showed my platelet count to be 570,000.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Platelet count is lowering
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking
In my opinion you should continue the same treatment. At the moment that your platelet count is lower means that this is the right treatment.
You have a chronic disease, that’s my opinion that you maybe will have symptoms ,but those symptoms will regress with time
Regards

Thank you.
The bone marrow biopsy showed no abnormalities other than the JAC-2 mutation that has been targeted as the cause of my high platelet count.
Is it possible that I will be able to discontinue the hydroxyurea over time?
In your opinion, was the dizziness caused by the high platelet count or something else?

I appreciate your attention to my condition. You did answer my question. I am still not able to understand the reasons for symptoms and if all are associated with this condition or if there is something more. Thank you.
