I Have Been Diagnosed With Hernia , It Resulted From

Question: I have been diagnosed with Hernia, it resulted from my chronic coughing.
The doctors suggest surgery.
The problem is after the surgery if my continous coughing is still there it could risk in moving my organs again and will risk complications.
What should I do?
I’m 55 year old male.

I can understand your concern.
Yes, you are right. If coughing is not controlled, you may have problem even after surgery.
So better to find out cause of your coughing before surgery and start its treatment.
So get done chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is needed to rule out bronchitis.
Lung infection and bronchitis, both can cause chronic cough.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and antibiotics based on the reports.

I have done PFT and I have bronchitis.
