Question: Hi Doctor,

I have been diagnosed with Psoriasis about three years ago. I consulted a dermatologist and was recommended an ointment cammed Halox. It was effective but I wasn't disciplined with its administration. Hence, sometimes it recedes and sometimes it increases.

Please suggest some medicines and also any precautions that I need to follow to get cured.

Regarding psoriasis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query as well as viewed the image and here is my advice.

I can see a dry, scaly, hyperpigmented psoriasis patch in this image. Though psoriasis can relapse after a seemingly complete cure, however, partial treatment or inadequate treatment is the most common cause of persistent lesions. Adherence to treatment usually ensures long term remission in psoriasis. I suggest you to use a moisturizer frequently e.g a Vaseline or Emoderm cream. In addition to this I suggest you to use a calcipotriol and clobetasol propionate combination ointment e.g Calpsor C ointment, twice daily for 2-4 weeks. Psoriasis is itchy therefore you should also take an oral antihistamine e.g Tab cetrizine 10mg once a day for symptomatic relief from itching.

Hope I have answered your query

Thank you for the reply. I have a query. For how long do I have to take the tablet Cetirizine? Also, what time of the day should I take it.

As far as the ointment is concerned, what should be the further course of action in case there isn't much improvement in the condition of Psoriasis even after administering the ointment for the said duration?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Tab. cetrizine is to be taken in evening. I suggest you go take it for at least 10 days to 2 weeks. Use the ointment twice daily , 1/2 hr after applying moisturizer. I expect it to improve the patch greatly in 3-4 weeks. Then you can follow up.

Take care
