Question: I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder earlier this year in April. I was training to be a midwife, but have temporarily decided to take some time out. I was just wondering if this diagnosis could stop me training?

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

NO, this should not stop you from training.

There are persons in the medical field with this or other disorders that are able to work efficiently and effectively.
You would need to continue follow up with your psychiatrist and/or psychologist but it should not stop you from working in the medical field as a mid wife.

Personally know nurses and doctors who follow up with psychiatry/psychology for a range of issues.

At some intermittent points, if there are times where your symptoms worsen temporarily, your counselling or medication may be need to be adjusted and it may be harder to function then but that may not occur regularly.
if your symptoms are still very severe, then you would need to restart training after you have stabilized.

You should speak to your psychologist/psychiatrist about your prognosis and ability to work.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
