Question: Hi doctor, I have been diagnosed with diabetes 3 months back and maintaining my diet control and also doing walking . I am able to manage sugar level in control as I got it tested 3-4 times since then and it is within range only . my latest report was 103 fbs and hba1c was 6.7 doctor has already reduced my medicine gradually and currently he has advised to take me Istamet 50/1000 mg half tablet once in daily.and then I need to go for test on 5th Aug and if it comes normal then he will try to stop medicine completely and see the progress without medicine. my question to you is I am frequently feeling nausea ,lost control, dizziness , confusion, fear , short breathless nd faint feeling mostly at night time . my doctor told me that this is because of low blood sugar and advised to eat some chocolate or sweet thing when u feel so and it is normal as per him, but sir I wanted to understand why am I frequently feeling like this and what is the cause and permanent solution please advise thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would agree with your doctor that the symptoms are very likely to be due to low sugars.
Blood sugars are a balance between the sugars you eat and the measures that you take to reduce sugars- including medicines, exercise.
So if your output is more than the input of sugars then the sugars would be low and that can cause symptoms because the body does not have enough sugar to do things.
I would recommend, in addition to taking chocolates or juices, that you test sugars with a glucometer at the time of the episodes. This may help in reducing the medications accordingly and thereby reduce the symptomatic episodes as well.
I hope this helps.
Feel free to ask a follow up query to clarify any associated point.

Hello.
Thanks for your response.
The doctor has already reduced the dose of the medicine.
As I suggested before, test sugars with a glucometer at the time of the episodes. This may help in reducing the medications accordingly and thereby reduce the symptomatic episodes as well.
I would not recommend stopping the medicines till the sugars at these episodes is documented.
Best wishes,
