I Have Been Experiencing Excessive Sweating And Anxiety With A

Question: I have been experiencing excessive sweating and anxiety with a slight discomfort in my thyroid area so I went for a check-up and did ultrasound on my thyroid and the result came back as
- Stable to slightly decrease in size of a 1.1 cm left isthmus thyroid nodule.
- The thyroid gland is diffusely heterogeneous and mildly hypervascular which can be seen with thyroiditis

But my general physician said no action needs to be taken. Why is that? I am still experiencing the symptoms but I don't understand why she is not doing anything to take of the symptoms?

Brief Answer:
About Hashimoto thyroiditis;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!

The heterogeneous thyroid gland in ultrasound is suggestive for chronic autoimmune thyroiditis that means the body produces some antibodies that destroy slowly the thyroid gland.

When more than 80% of the thyroid gland is destroyed, hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid is installed and at this moment thyroid hormones should be taken by mouth.

There is no treatment to lower the antibodies and to prevent thyroid destruction.
For the moment the thyroid function should have been within the normal ranges that is why your physician didn't start treatment.

You should check TSH every 6 months and start levothyroxine once it is elevated.

Hope the information will help.

Thanks so much for your reply and explaining why my physician is not going to do anything . However, is there anything I could do on my own to reduce my other symptoms?
