I Have Been Experiencing Foggy Thinking, Unsteady On Feet, Some
May benefit from a metabolic workup if things don't continue to improve
Detailed Answer:
Good morning young lady...
If you've been having feelings of vertigo, unsteadiness on your feet, and foggy thinking that suddenly came on 1 week ago but some of those symptoms seem to be getting better then, it is very possible that you are suffering from one of the simplest things that this could be...a minor swelling of the inner ear.
We sometimes call such a swelling of the inner ear a labrynthitis. You've not complained of buzzing in the head (tinnitus), or ear pain (otalgia), or sore throat but your symptoms are consistent with a possible inflammation or swelling (likely due to a viral infection).
Since the vertigo seems to be subsiding then, I believe the whole entity is likely on the mend but most viral infections of this nature take anywhere from 1-3 weeks to fully disappear so you may still be dealing with some residuals for a few more days. My recommendation is that you push the FLUIDS....water is best.....I wouldn't necessarily take anything over the counter since most of that stuff in the pharmacy doesn't really help and if anything can make your symptoms that are getting better...all of a sudden seem worse.
Just lots of hydration, take it easy a little bit...get a couple of naps during the day if you can, eat your VEGGIES, make some Chicken Broth....I'm totally serious....maybe get on 2-3000mg. of Vitamin C if you really want to take something for this...that certainly won't hurt and it could have some other sidelight benefits. And these symptoms will go away shortly.
On the other hand if things were to get stagnated at this point or get worse....then, You may require a metabolic workup to include a blood count to see if you're suffering from either an anemia or electrolyte imbalance somewhere. You could also use Vitamin B12 and D levels done which are probably good (Vit. D could be low for sure...just about everybody has a low level). And you could possibly use some thyroid tests such as an FT4 and TSH. I would also get a URINALYSIS since you could also have an OCCULT UTI and not even realize it but it can then, manifest itself as constitutional types of symptoms.
I would only recommend these labs be done if you don't really progress over the next few days back to normal. If you do not progress or do not progress very quickly then, the labs should be instituted.
