I Have Been Experiencing Some Digestive Problems For The Past

Question: I have been experiencing some digestive problems for the past three or four weeks. Specifically, I feel what is best characterized as an "acid stomach" sensation in my lower intestines, especially after lunch. I have also been having frequent bowl movements, mild nausea and fatigue. I had a colonoscopy a couple months ago and was told that I have diverticulitis, although up until then I did not have many of the symptoms described above.
I should add that I drink strong coffee during the day and not a stranger to wine consumption during the evening. Today I eliminated all food prepared with oil and had nothing with any sugar in it. Interestingly, I usually feel much better after dinner... but as I said, I feel worse after lunch. I'm a 67 year old man and am in pretty good physical condition. I have a vigorous workout 90 plus minutes every day.
Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Opps! I have diverticulosis, NOT diverticulitis! Spell checker changed it on me. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi and Welcome to ask a doctor service. thanks for using this app. I have read your question and here is my advice.
This is great that you get good care of your health. What appears is from your history is that probably you have got some gastritis / peptic ulcer. Coffee and alcohal may do that. If you feel fine otherwise(like no high fever, no blood in stool, no severe pain in tummy, etc normal blood pressure ) , here what we need to give you trial of acid suppressant drugs for few days and see.If that helps, we just need to continue it for 2 to 4 weeks.Acid suppressants like lansoprazole 30 mg once, with some OTC antacid syrup. If you are fine then, its all . However if it does not help you feel better , or you feel very unwell, then of course I would suggest to see your doctor. That how we proceed.
If loose motions are too frequent like more then usual for you (more then 3 times a day ) or there is too much pain in tummy, then getting a stool examination for some germs is needed as some blood tests.
Alcohol and coffee can cause gastritis, and yes I won't say stop it (nor its easy to do so) but try to minimise it. Hopes you feel fine with this, if not please see you doctor for proper assessment then.
Hopes this answer help you understand your query. Let me know if you have any further questions about it.Please don't hesitate to ask more questions. I would be glad to answer that. Kind regards Dr Mahboob ur Rahman
