Question: I have been experiencing stomach pain ALL over my stomach for the past 2 months 24/7. I've had ultrasound/cat scan and MRI and nothing showed up. I don't eat as much so I don't do #2 as often.I feel bloated and have sharp pains on my sides from time to time. No fever, diarrhea, or anything else I can think of now. I drink between 1 & 2 quarts of water daily.

Brief Answer:
Possibly GERD, ideally should be examined by a surgeon and endoscopy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have studied your problem carefully and understand your concern.

Chronic low grade gastritis or irritable bowel syndrome is the most common cause for your symptoms considering the fact that all the tests done have come back normal.

You can undergo upper GI endoscopy to rule out gastritis and if confirmed, a small biopsy can be done to look for H. Pylori infection of the stomach which is the most common cause for chronic gastritis.

If H. Pylori is detected, then H. Pylori eradication regimen can be initiated along with proton pump inhibitors to reduce acid secretion in the stomach.

If endoscopy turns out to be normal, then the most likely cause will be IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) which can be controlled with medications.

Please discuss with your general surgeon or Gastroenterologist and proceed further.

I hope this information will help you, I will be happy to answer follow-up questions if any.

Wishing you speedy recovery and good health.

Best regards
