![default](/r/images/default.png)
Each time I got recovered with in a week by using pain killer.
But during last winter in December 2019, I again started feeling pain in left knee which although recovered with in few days as it used to be in the past but this time It started again as soon as I left using Pain killer tablets.
After about three months, I visited the doctor to diagnose the problem.
After examining the knee, the doctor advised me with X-Ray and blood tests.
The medicine he advised me during the 1st examination was:
a. Dicerein Capsule 50 mg once a day
b. Airtal tablets 100 mg twice a day for the first three weeks.
On the second visit he repeated the medicine but advised to take Airtal once a day with Dicerein 50 mg.
I took this medicine for 8 weeks continuously.
After 8 weeks time, I felt no pain so stopped taking the medicine.
After about four days of stopping Medicines, I re-started feeling pain again so I started the medicine again.
I want to mention here that I used all the other medicine advised by the doctor for boosting vitamins in my body.
Although the pain is not as swear as it used to be in the beginning of treatment but its not over.
Now I start feeling pain just after 15 mints of normal walk at the back of my knee joint and in the bone below knee. It becomes moderate if I keep on walking so I have to walk slowly.
Kindly advise me to get rid of this problem for ever.
I m 62 years and don't have swelling or any sort of sound in the knee joint.
X-Ray report, Blood test reports and prescription by doctor is attached here with for ready reference.
Pain is due to osteoarthritis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen all the attached reports. Your knee joints have undergone osteoarthritic changes. These are basically age related degenerative changes in the weight bearing joints like knee and is characterized by joint pain and stiffness. Upon movement the stiffness gradually relives. Sometimes application of hot pads can make the movement possible.
Life style modifications like avoiding stairs, squatting, sitting cross legged & cycling will help in reducing your symptoms. Reducing weight is of prime importance if you are overweight. If the pain is severe, you can take few doses of NSAID's (Ibuprofen) or physiotherapic modalities like IFT to relieve your pain.
You can start with walking and aerobic fitness exercises, quadriceps strengthening, patellar tapping, lateral heel wedges, etc- under the guidance of your physiotherapist.
The treatment given to you is correct. You need to continue taking the joint lubricant supplements like Diacerin or chondroitin.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

Thanks for detailed reply. As you wrote that cycling is not beneficial for my knee then How can I reduce my wait? Couple of months ago I do walk daily 5-6 KMs. I am using Dicerein 50mg and it is not helping me. Could you suggest any good tablet instead Dicerein which will be more beneficial for me. Secondly how can I stop this osteoarthritis changes?
Strict diet control will help in losing weight.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
To reduce the weight, you need to do non strenuous knee exercises. Walking, swimming and a strict diet control helps a lot. You can start with glucosamine sulphate and hyaluronic acid supplements for a better lubrication. The osteoarthritic changes are age related changes. To decrease their progression, regular physiotherapy exercises will help.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.

Walking and cycling are good for you.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You can walk on the road or use a treadmill without any inclination. You can also use a cycle in the gym initially for a short while and then gradually increase the timing.
Regards.
