I Have Been Havig Severe Back And Rib Cage Area
Question: I have been havig severe back and rib cage area pain for over 2 weeks now. It started after we moved to our new flat, guess I injured myself while carrying stuff and whitewashing one of the rooms. At first I was feeling it on my upper back left side (I am left handed maybe I exerted more pressure) For a while now the ache has been moving from my upper back to my ribcage area causing serious spazms that last up to 1-2 hours. Severe pain happens almost everyday if I move too long, sit too long, walk or lie too long. Once I woke up from my sleep in pain to go to thhe bathroom but It ached soo much I had to sit on the bathroom floor, I got all pale and cold sweats. It went away 20-30 mins later. I go to work but I can%E2%80%99t sit too long it starts aching after a while. I used Voltaren and Ibuprofen but guess they can%E2%80%99t heal a chronic pain if that is the case...I usually lie on my right side but If I have the pain on my ribcage area I lie on my back or find a posture which it does not hurt that much. Not sure what this is, can you help?
Brief Answer:
It could be a spine-related problem.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have gone through your description and I can understand your concerns.
The given history likely suggestive of spine related problem probably prolapsed disc or nerve impingement. The radiation of pain is typical of neuropathic pain.
As first-line management take absolute bed rest and always sit with a straight back. You can take analgesics like gabapentin for pain relief. Steroid drugs like deflazacort can also be taken for three to four days.
Generally, the symptoms will settle in a few days. If pain persists better to consult an orthopedic and plan for an MRI scan.
Wishing you all the best. Feel free to ask further.
Thanks
