Posted on Sat, 6 Mar 2021
Question: I have been having neck pain for more than 6 weeks off and on. I had flu-like symptoms (including chest tightness and back pain) for about 4 weeks but tested negative for Covid. For the past few days I started to have numbness my left arm and hand. I also still have the chest tightness and backache. Have been to urgent care and regular doctor with no clear answers yet.

Brief Answer:
Compression on spinal cord and nerves to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to “Ask a Doctor “ service.

I have read your question.

In your case, with those symptoms, a compression of the spinal cord and nerves on your neck is suspected and should be evaluated further.

Intervertebral disc herniation, degenerative changes ( spondylosis ) with subsequent compression on neural structures for example, are conditions to consider.

If the symptoms depend on the head and neck position, instability of the cervical spine should be considered as well.

Dynamic x-rays and MRI of your cervical spine are necessary for a correct diagnosis and treatment.

Discuss with your Doctor these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
