Brief Answer:
It suggests reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query and here is my advice.

Gamunex C is an immunoglobulin. Flu like symptoms are common after such infusions. Body is considering the protein (immunoglobulin) as a foreign body and is fighting against it. The COX system has been activated. In such a case, lowering the rate of infusion must happen. If the fever and pain does NOT come down after lowering the rate of infusion or new adverse drug reactions appear, we will need to stop the infusion. Continuing the infusion may make it worse. After stopping, re-introduction may be tried after the symptoms have abated. If symptoms reappear, then no need to continue with the medicine.

Paracetamol (for fever) and Diphenhydramine (anti-allergic) can be taken as and when required.

Hope this reply was clear. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks

The infusion takes about 5 and a half hours now. I go in as an out patient. Do you think my body does not need the infusion or my body is not accepting the immunoglobulin. I keep wondering if it is worth it. Now that I am older do you think I will have a harder time fighting infection like pneumonia, etc. My IGG levels are low when the check them but is it necessary to receive the Gamunex C. PLease advise and appreciate you help.

Brief Answer:
No its not necessary to receive Gamunex C

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Yours seems to be a case of Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). Kindly upload the reports or let me know the IgG levels, so that I am better able to help.

No its not necessary to receive Gamunex C when IgG levels are low. Are you having any infections? If the IgG levels are only slightly low, then there shouldnt be much problems in fighting infections. You might catch a cold, cough or diarhea easily and it could become bad and may take a longer time to recover. But you will recover eventually because body fights infections by many methods.

Your body is not accepting the infusion. You could be switched to a low dose regime. Anyways, Gamunex C should be given in severe cases only. I would not give such an infusion for mild to moderate deviations in IgG levels.

With age, the immunity does lower. If your IgG levels are low, you can simply take your precautions and avoid getting in contact with people suffering from infections. Mostly avoid polluted air and water. Drink cleaner water with lowest possible PPM. Stay indoors.

Hope my answer is clear and helpful. Please revert back in more doubts.

Brief Answer:
I am listing normal values for IgG

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I am listing the normal range for each sub-class of IgG.

IgG1 is 280 to 1020 mg/dl
IgG2 is 60 to 790 mg/dl
IgG3 is 14 to 240 mg/dl
IgG4 is 11 to 330 mg/dl

According to these values, your IgG is very much in normal range. Laboratories can differ in normal ranges to some extent. I do not know your laboratory's normal range for these parameters. Surprisingly these levels are staying in the same range despite Gamunex C.
In my opinion, there no reason to be supplementing for IgG.

Anyways, if we want to increase the levels, then following can be tried:
- Take more of proteins as IgG is made up of proteins. It can help to some extent but do not overdo it.
- In Yoga, we have breathing techniques, that help open the airways and lungs. These help fight infections, increase breathing capacity and also increase oxygen levels in blood thereby increasing capacity to fight infections. You can learn such a technique in a short course and practice it daily at home. Alternatively, we have breathing instruments available at pharmacies or surgical instruments suppliers.

I have worked in Canada previously and currently practicing in XXXXXXX

Dr. Vaishalee. Thank you so much for all your information. You have enlightened me on a number of thing and I greatly appreciate your help. I really do think I am going to discontinue the Gamunex C. It is making me feel worst after taking the infusion. I am just starting to recoup from them today. But still feel weak. I am going to look into some Yoga if you think that will help. Can you just clear up that if I intake more proteins in my diet that that may help. Greatly appreciate you concerns and kindness. Take Care.

Brief Answer:
yes its a scientific fact

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Yes its a scientifically proven fact that protein intake is related to immunoglobulin levels. If dietary proteins are low then immunoglobulin levels tend to be low. In such cases increasing dietary protein is helpful. Blood protein (albumin and globulin) levels can be checked to know your status and dietary proteins can be increased accordingly. Excess of proteins can put a load on kidneys, so donot overdo it.

Also get your iron levels checked as these levels are also related to immunoglobulin levels. If blood iron is low than take its supplements.

In yoga, breathing technique is specifically helpful.
