Question: I have been sick for the past couple weeks. This started with a mild sore throat after oral sex and quickly turned into laryngitis and has now become a bronchial cough with limited production. I have no fever (had mild body aches) and felt a bit tired. The laryngitis has been ongoing for two weeks and the cough has become increasingly more painful and come in fits. My PCP placed me on ceftin for 10 days (currently day 3 of treatment). I have seen improvement, however my family members have now begun to develop the same producing cough. I am unclear as to whether this cough is something going around or something more serious. I think I may I believe I am concerned I have contracted oral gonorhea and may have passed this onto my family. First off, is there anything out of the normal in the illness and treatment? Secondarily, if for some reason I did contract oral gonorhea, can this be transmitted through kissing (lips), or through contaminated tooth brushes touching or other? I plan to get full std testing conducted for certainty but need to know if there is something more significant or concerning. I would also like to know if the timing of me having unprotected oral sex and having laryngitis and cough are compounding but not necessarily related. Regarding mucosal touch, if I coughed and family touched their face or eyes, would that be a path of transfer or would there need to be some form of direct mucosal to mucosal connection?

Can you give some examples of indirect mucosal touch that could pass on the bacteria?

I will follow up with my testing and a swab. Currently, the ceftin has improved - the pustule on my tonsils has reduced in size, coughing has begun to improve, and voice has begun to return.
