Detailed Answer:
Hi thank you for providing the details.I feel your trouble and the discomfort you must be suffering from.
What we understand from your whole history is briefly stated below.
If you are already using CPAP, this mean you already have some lung problem, may be obstructive sleep apnea. If you still get up with shortness of breath this probably mean you need to re assess the setting of the CPAP. This may need changing to give give better sleep. Better sleep is very important for good quality of life.
Pruducing lot of phlemn also needs evaluation. Mostly this is causes by bronchiectasis, or COPD, which also bees further evaluation like chest xray and scans if already not done. Few things that can help you reduce this problem includes chest physiotherapy, using mucolytics (drugs that causes thinning of phlemn hense easily spitted out).
Another things is regurg of food content also make cough worse. Few things like avoidnig late night meals help alot here. You should take your night meal atleast 2 hours before going beds. Avoiding alcohol late night may also help. Keep your head end of bed elevated.
However these are not only cause, infection and improper setting of cpap may also be reponsible.
So for time being you may be helped by above few modification, but you surely need to be seen by pulomalogist for proper evaluation.
Hopes this answer help you understand your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. I would be glad if I could help you anymore.
