I Have Been Trouble With A Lot Of Abdominal Discomfort

default
Posted on Sun, 30 Sep 2018
Question: I have been trouble with a lot of abdominal discomfort lately Sometimes the discomfort spreads to my back. It seems that it doesn't matter what I eat. It all is causing discomfort.
I've had trouble with IBS in the past and also years ago I had trouble with Candida in my digestive tract. The Candida caused bloating, but other than that discomfort it caused me to be sensitive to odors. I think that taking Pepcid Complete makes me feel worse.
Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Try drugs more specifically used in IBS.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should try better and newer drugs used now for IBS related spasms IBS is basically a disease where there is no problem with anatomy of gut but there is some functional problem with it

I would suggest you drugs which slows down the motility of intestines hence will decrease both the frequency of your symptoms.

Mebeverine is an antispasmodic medicine and is very useful in IBS and is well tolerated by the patient with minimal side effects. Mebeverine works on certain muscles in the wall of your intestines, causing them to relax.

Chlordiazepoxide can be used in combination with the above-mentioned medicines.

For controlling symptoms related to candida take probiotics and probiotics daily. They consist of good bacteria and yeast and would help in the proper digestion of food and would help with the smell of food.

Please discuss this with your treating doctor.
Hope I was helpful. Feel free to ask further.
Thanks!

Won't taking Mebeverine possibly cause me to have a hard stool? I go back and forth between hard stools and loose stools. Many times on the same day.

Brief Answer:
IBS is a mystery disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

Some patients in IBS presents with constipation while other have loose stools while in some cases both tbings are there.Every patient with IBS is different with varying symptoms and intensities therefore there is no framed out treatment for IBS.Every patient is treated by drugs symptomatically.

All anticholinergics can give constipation but the trial should be done.

Constipation could easily be treated however on the other hand to live with constant abdominal discomfort can decrease the quality of life substantially.

While treating a case of IBS we are not looking for the cure rather we are looking to control the symptoms which are more problematic so that quality of life could be improved.

Thank you.
