I Have Been Trying To Conceive So The Doctor Sent

Posted on Fri, 19 Oct 2018
Question: I have been trying to conceive so the doctor sent me for an ultrasound scan. I don't understand it is this scan okay and can I conceive?
I have always had regular periods 27 to 31 days but the last 3 months I have had spotting as well as period so it's unlikely I have ovulated.
The cyst that the scan has shown will it resolve and could this of been the cause of spotting?
Can I conceive naturally?
Cancer worries me as ovarian and womb cancer run in the family I hope there is no suggestion of this.
Please help asap as I am full of anxiety.

Thanks
Alison

Brief Answer:
No alarming features...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the report carefully. There is a simple cyst, a functional one. This is technically a benign cyst which would resolve. It doesn't indicate cancerous condition. So you need not be worried.

As far as conceiving naturally is concerned, the scan doesn't reveal any significant finding which would impair chances of pregnancy. But if you have been trying on for more than a year, other possible factors should be evaluated. Your local doctor will know about it.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

So everything is normal and you see no cause for concern regarding conceiving?
The bleeding/spotting I had can this be connected to the cyst and will it go on its own?

Brief Answer:
Small calcifications are not considered serious...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Here are my comments to the questions raised:

1. The left ovary has a tiny bit of calcification. Since it's not a large calcified mass it wouldn't raise serious concerns right away. I would either ignore it or consider repeat scans months apart to monitor the size and progress. In most probabilities, it should stay stable and not lead to serious complications.

2. Irregular spotting is probably secondary to hormonal changes and age factors. It may or may not be related to the cyst. If irregularities continue, I would perform hormonal assays to see if they are related. Correcting hormone disturbances would be one of the key in improving your chances of conceiving.

3. This scan doesn't help us identify ovulation. Hormone tests and follicular scans help us identify ovarian reserve and about ovulation.

Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if you have any other specific concerns.

Regards

All hormone blood tests are normal so hopefully I can conceive naturally. I have before but it ended at 12 weeks in miscarriage. Thanks
