Question: I have been trying to conceive so the doctor sent me for an ultrasound scan. I don't understand it is this scan okay and can I conceive?  I have always had regular periods 27 to 31 days but the last 3 months I have had spotting as well as period so it's unlikely I have ovulated. The cyst that the scan has shown will it resolve and could this of been the cause of spotting? Can I conceive naturally? Cancer worries me as ovarian and womb cancer run in the family I hope there is no suggestion of this. Please help asap as I am full of anxiety. does the scan show if I ovulate?

Brief Answer:
the scan features are grossly unremarkable...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query and the USG report in details...
I can understand your concern...

Coming straight to your queries:

Well, these scan findings are ok. No, It doesn't show whether you've ovulated.

The cyst in the right ovary is just a simple cyst. It's avascular in nature (means there's no blood supply apparently), it should not cause any harm, neither does it seem like anything cancerous. So nothing to worry here.

The tiny calcific focus in the left ovary could be due to cellular debris/deposition of inorganic matter (not to worry about it either)...

Please note at the age is 43, it seems like it's been a while trying, so the question of conceiving naturally should only be ascertained after a thorough clinical examination as well as other relevant findings (follicle study, hormonal profile assay, and a few others)...

However, as of now, I don't think there's anything to worry regarding cancer. Please don't.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take Care
Kind Regards
