I Have Chronic Pain That Began In The Left Ankle

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Jun 2019
Question: I have chronic pain that began in the left ankle and has progressively radiated up the calf area to the back of the left knee. It starts every morning when moving about, and can increase to the point where it is difficult to keep moving. There is some numbness associated with the affected areas. Some temporary relief comes from sitting or 'squatting' on the left leg.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to osteoarthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

The chronic pain in the ankle and leg can be related to osteoarthritic changes or a muscle spasm or a ligament sprain. It is best to get an X-ray of the ankle done to find the exact cause. Doing a hot compress and using an elastic brace can help in the improvement of pain.

You can also use a local analgesic gel containing Diclofenac in the area for relief.

I hope this answers your query.

In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Wishing you good health.
