Question: I have cystic acne and rosacea. I used salicylic acid over the summer. Unfortunately I forgot the sunblock one day and have ended up with bad burns on my face. I have used benadryl cream and a cream for eczema Gold Bond eczema relief with 2% colloidal oatmeal. I am concerned about the underlying acne , my efforts to exfoliate the skin lesions along my jaw lines. I have created a mess. I am embarrassed, ashamed since I am a retired nurse practitioner in psychiatry. please advise what I should do at this point. I see my physician next week. Thank you.

Oral antibiotics may be needed for acne.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think you should use some tips to help the sunburn and to prevent further inflammation and infection.
*stop exfoliation immediately
*wash face with warm water
*protect skin from further exposure to the sun
*I don't recommend Benadryl cream
*you can use gold bond eczema since it contains Vit E and aloe to heal the burns.

Even though you are using gold bond cream it needs some days to give results or a week depending on burn grade.

You may need additional treatment with oral antibiotics for jawline acne (except exfoliation). Minocycline is preferable.

Also, any antibiotic ointment may be added like tetracycline ointment but after your skin gets completely healed from the burn.
