Topiramate dose increments
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting us with your question
The dosage of topiramate for migraine prophylaxis is usually 100 mg. However, some individuals may require a dosage of up to 200 mg. If you are experiencing episodes of migraine, then increasing the dose can be considered.
The dosage can only be increased weekly in increments of 25 mg/day in order to avoid adverse effects (like severe skin/allergic reactions) from the medication. That is, in the first week you can only increase 25 mg/day (which would amount to a total daily dose of 125 mg), which can be divided into AM or PM according to your convenience. On the 2 nd week, the dose can further be increased to 150 mg/gay.
The decision to increase dosage depends greatly upon your clinical outcome. It should only be done under the guidance of the treating physicians. You can try contacting your neurologist by phone to see if a dosage adjustment is best for you.
Hope this answers your question
