Question: I have developed a URI and today went to an allergist and was prescribed prednisone .(I have asthma and am 72 years old.) My question is over the past hours tonight I have developed pretty intense pressure in my Left ear. Short of calling my allergist tomorrow morning, is there anything else that might help?

Brief Answer:
Eustachian tube dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask A Doctor"

I have gone through your query and can certainly understand your concern,

The intense ear pressure in your ear seems to be due to Eustachian tube dysfunction which is very common in URI. This should resolve within a couple of days time.
You can use oxymetazoline decongestant or any OTC nasal decongestant, which should help in relieving your symptoms.
You can also take an OTC painkiller like ibuprofen to help reduce the pain and swelling.

I hope this helps,

Please feel free to discuss further,

Regards
