Brief Answer:
MND is very uncommon

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service

How can you say he is going to get MND?

Has he shown any symptoms?

Any family history of MND in his family?

MND is very rare, most of the cases are genetic and there is sporadic incidence too. But if he is healthy, young and there is no incidence of MND in his immediate family then no need to get worried. Try to reasssure yourself. The disease is not that common.

If you are not able to control these intrusive negative thoughts then this is because of anxiety and this should be treated.

Behaviour therapy, psycho-education and relaxation therapy can help to reduce the unwanted thoughts. Try to suppress the thoughts and distract yourself when these thoughts come in your mind. You can try relaxation exercises to control the thoughts.

Drugs like SSRIs can be used to reduce anxiety. Fluoxetine or Fluvoxamine can help in reducing the unwanted thoughts. You can visit a psychiatrist for evaluation and prescription.

Thanks

I don’t know why I think he will get it. No he has no symptoms and he has no immediate family history of any neurological disorderds as far as I know his aunt has Parkinson’s. How rare is it would you say his chances of him ever getting it is slim to none I’m sorry about this I’m just very paranoid.

Brief Answer:
The incidence is very low

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

The overall incidence of MND is very low and most of cases have genetic cause of family history. Sporadic incidence is very very low. He has no symptoms and no family history so you can stay relaxed. The thoughts are due to anxiety only, no need to give stress to these thoughts.

If we consider roughly then incidence of MND in general population is around 2-3 cases per 10000 population, and sporadic incidence is around 20% of this which reduces risk further.

So please remain relaxed, he is safe and healthy.

Thanks

So the sporadic risk what is that I don’t quite understand. Like how many people would that be. With no family history does it make it less more likely. Would you say his lifetime risk is slim to none and out of 100% what chance would you say I’m sorry about this I just need someone to try and convince me that it isn’t going to happen beacuse I am sat hear in tears for it in my mind it is going to happen

Brief Answer:
The risk is very rare.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Sporadic risk means risk independent of genetics and familial factors in an isolated individual. This means risk in any random person with no family history or genetics. Its about 0.5 (rough estimates).

Yes with no family history the risk reduces significantly. Yes the risk is very slim so please don't get worried. He is totally safe. Just remain relaxed.

Thanks
