I Have Developed A Speaking Issue Recently. I Struggle To

Question: I have developed a speaking issue recently. I struggle to get words out -- not that I have trouble thinking of words or forming a sentence. My stomach/chest/throat muscles seem to involuntarily constrict and I have to almost physically force the words out. This means I have a very difficult time speaking loudly and clearly and the "constricting" sometimes means that I miss words completely and have to start over, or I start to stutter.
This has been going on for several weeks now. My doctor said she thinks it's mild asthma and/or allergies. She gave me an inhaler that doesn't seem to have helped at all with this and I don't think it's allergies. While sometimes the "constricting" is more defined than normal, it's been pretty consistent for a while.
What could this be and what should be my next steps?
