Please advise EXACTLY what kind of exercises I can do to strengthen myself to relieve these symptoms. I am not ready to start using a cane or a walker. AndI want to continue walking every day for obvious reasons and do not want to take too many alleve or ibuprofen as I had ulcers years ago..

Brief Answer:
Exercises explained below in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

I agree with your opinion about relieving the pain with exercise and reduce the dose of anti inflammatory medications.

Exercise is usually better for relieving the pain than bed rest.

Some of the exercises that you can try at home are extensive exercises.

I will try to explain in details how to do them.

Stretch by placing the low back into extension. Lying on the stomach and propping the upper body up on the elbows, keeping hips on the floor.

From the position of lying flat on the stomach press up on the hands while the pelvis remains in contact with the floor.

Stand by arching backward slowly with hands on hips.

These extension exercises are very effective in relieving the pain.

Other effective exercises are aerobic exercises.

Acupuncture is also very preferred in relieving the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
