![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: I have experienced about 3 dizzy/ vertigo spells while taking Eliquis, and blood in urine. I have been taking it for just a little over a month. Doctor thinks it is a bit normal for this medication. I have to lay down when I get a dizzy spell, and at time my head hurts a bit behind my eyes, or left eye. What are your thoughts on this? I am taking the medication for a DVT in my lower left calf.

I would explain as follows:

Hello!
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service!
I understand your concern and would like to explain that Eliquis may lead to dizzy spells or syncope, but headache and pain behind the eye is uncommon for such a drug.
Coming to this point It is necessary to exclude any possible adverse effects (like bleeding), before deciding to continue the therapy.
A neurological consultation is recommended. Head CT may be required if suspicions are raised after that.
You should discuss with your doctor about the above-mentioned issues.
Hope to have been helpful to you!
In case of any further questions feel free to ask me again.

THERE ARE DIFFERENT COST INVOLVED WITH THAT, SEEMS ACCORDING TO DETAIL OF SCAN, HOW MUCH DETAIL WOULD BE RECOMMENDED FOR THE SCAN YOU ARE SPEAKING OF.
Brief Answer:
My opinion as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello again!
Let me explain that head scan would be necessary only in case the neurologist would suspect of any underlying bleeding after performing a detailed neurological exam.
Anyways, there are several different causes of headache unrelated to Eliquis use.
So relax! A head scan would be required only in the extreme case of a dangerous adverse drug effect (less than 0.06% to 0.33%).
And in that extreme case of CT indication believe me it is cost effective and worth doing it.
Wishing you good health!

Dr. Iliri
