I Have Extreme Anxiety And Can't Ever Calm Down. I've

Question: I have extreme anxiety and can't ever calm down. I've been having head rushes for the past 3 weeks now. I can't even sleep because of them. I could be sitting or lying down and still feel them. Sometimes my heart will forcefully beat and right this second, I feel a whooshing sound in my hear and don't understand what is wrong with me. Got blood work done 4 times, all normal. Got 3 EKGs done, all normal. No anemia, blood sugar's fine, thyroid is fine. I'm getting an echocardiogram and holter monitor to ease my worries and an appointment with a neurologist to ease my worries, as well. I just cannot calm down for the life of me and I'm scared something is terminally or critically wrong with me. Please, please help.

Brief Answer:
Looks very much like anxiety syndrome. Upload a photo please

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for using "Ask a doctor" service.

You can do the rest of the tests you are planning and if all results normal, then this what you have it is typical anxiety syndrome.

Talk with someone about these worries you have in you. That will help you a lot feel better.
Do things you like to do and that relaxes you like reading a book, shopping, ect.
Start doing daily walks or even running. The realised adrenaline helps to heal anxiety.

At the end, you can also see a local psychiatrist who can prescribe a cure against anxiety. Of course you need to combine it with the advices I mentioned above.

Send me a photo of the head rash. Is it itchy? How did it started and how has it changed? Did any medicine help you so far or make you feel better? Let me know some information about this so I can advice.

Hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards, Dr. Klarida Papaqako, General and Family physician.

Hi. It’s not a head rash. It’s a head rush, as if I’m on a wave. I can’t tell if it’s lightheadness because I can walk fine, drive fine, work 12 hour shifts fine. You know when you get up too fast and you get that head rush? That’s what it feels like every second, except when I’m lying down or sitting. I don’t feel it as much when moving around. My psychiatric physician assistant increased my Ativan from 0.5mg to 1mg, which this is my 2nd day of taking it. I’m supposed to take the Ativan twice a day, PRN. She also increased my Lamictal from 250mg to 300 which I take once daily at night. That’s why I don’t understand what’s wrong with me and if it’s heart or neurologically related. I literally can’t relax because I can’t stop thinking about how I may have an underlying condition. I have no rash though. Again, it’s a head RUSH. It’s as if I’m on a wave. Another example is when you’re at the peak of a rollercoaster and start going down? That’s what it also feels like in my head for literally the past 3 weeks.

Brief Answer:
It seems like anxiety but go on ruling out physical problems

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I understand now. Thank you for the explanation and the follow up question.

What I said above stays the same. Except the part that I thought that all these anxiety type symptoms were triggered by the stress of the rash. But the stres in itself it is there and should be treated. Those advices I mentioned above are practical and will be helpful. Also work with identifying what is stressful or was so stressful in your life that you accumulated and that your body now is revealing with these physical symptoms. It can be something that happened the last 6 months.
It is good that you changed the doses of the medication you are using. They need 2-3 weeks to take full effect.
It seems to me that you are in good hands with your doctors there.

Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Kind regards,
Dr.Papaqako

Thank you for your detailed response. It helps. I do have severe anxiety, especially health anxiety. However, I think another fear I have are of brain aneurysms. Does my symptoms or can it possibly sound like a brain aneurysm? I don’t have severe headaches or anything like that. Again, I can walk fine, talk fine, and so my daily tasks without falling or being clumsy, but the head rush, as if my heart beat is getting to my head which I guess makes it feel like a whirlwind/head rush. Does it sound like a brain aneurysm though from just that description? Or do you still stand by it being anxiety-related.

Brief Answer:
The visit with neurologist will determine and rule oit an aneurysm

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Brain aneurysms usually cause headache. But the symptoms can vary. That is why the visit with the neurologist will determine if it is something physical or not. By a neurological exam of the nerves of the head he will see first if everything is normal with those nerves. He may also order a ct scan or an mri. If everything physical is rule out, then anxiety is left. This is how anxiety diagnosis is decided usually. But from your symptoms, noticing that they are not specific to a physical problem, I think it will be anxiety. Let me know. Let me know also if I can help you further.

Kind regards,
Dr. Papaqako
