Question: I have had a breast augmentation about 55 days ago. it was a repair operating as one implant became folded and so a new implant was put in as was a mesh patch to help hold the tissue under the breast. on day 52 post op I was suddenly struck with a severe fever and body aches and was screaming in pain from the fever and not completely conscious and had pain In the breast. the next morning I went to my local ER who found my cbc to be at 15 and my lactave (or the test that shows severity of infection) to be only 2.8. they did a cat scan and it showed a pocket that either contained leaked implant or an abscess that had string like lines but that it had not quite but my bloodstream to become sepsis. I was given a drip of an antibiotic. I was to be admitted however my plastic surgeon was 5 hours away and so it was agreed to go immediately to him to be admitted. I did that and was placed on drip for the last 2 days. after day one my cbc was down to only 14.8 after day 2 it was down to 14 2 then today was down to 12. I had a consistent fever this whole time and during treatment the did a ultrasound needle drain to collect fluid but there was very little fluid to draw from. it appeared mostly clear but the results are still days away. the original ER did 2 cultures but day 3 the results had no cultures grown and hence negative. I was discharged with keflex and am still as sick as when I started with a fever that won't break. no real indication of why or what the cause is. is there any other ideas as to what is wrong. I'm annoyed wise healthy 37 yo female with no medical issues just several recent plastic surgeries. I should note the last operation I contracted 2 months post op from festered stitches sepsis in the same breast which is why the implant became folded and hence this surgery came about. I spent 3 days drip iv over that which was almost exactly one year ago today.

Brief Answer:
It looks like Infection of the Operated breast

Detailed Answer:
Hi
The symptoms that you have mentioned are due to Infection only.
It could due to Surgery on the Breast.Source of Infection can be Implant or Surrounding tissue.Small pocket of pus is also sufficient to cause severe discomfort.
Simple Keflex will not be sufficient.
I prefer a Broad spectrum Antibiotic like Tablet Faropenem 300mg or Clindamycin Capsule. You should take Anti inflammatory tablet also.
Get an Ultrasound of the Breast again after a week.Any Collection can be Aspirated.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health and speedy recovery.
Regards
