I Have Had Abdominal Pain In My Left Lower Abdomen
Question: I have had abdominal pain in my left lower abdomen that can radiate across my waist line. I have felt some pain also below my sternum ans also felt below the middle of my rib cage. This has been going on for almost four months now. I have had a CT scan, colonoscopy, two CBC tests and will possibly be doing an ERCP or another CT scan. All tests have come back normal. I can feel my stomach rumbling/making noises in the same spot after eating sometimes. It usually is felt most while sitting and will go away after a little while when standing. My back has been a little sore from time to time, but I think that is dealing with my mattress or sleeping style. The only other thing I can think of is my groin can be sore in the morning. I have no other symptoms and am just worried instead. I have a hard time sleeping some times because I stay up anxiously worrying about it.
Brief Answer:
It could be many things
Detailed Answer:
Hi Arron,
What you describe could be a hernia, although this can usually be seen on a CT scan, especially if you do a Valsalva maneuver at the same time, as this will push a hernia through the abdominal wall. Have you had abdominal surgery in the past? Did you have biopsies during your colonoscopy?
Any fever, vomiting?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

There was no biopsy done as the doctor didn't detect any abnormalities. I haven't had any vomiting or nausea the entire time. I had some diarrhea at the very beginning, but things became normal after some time. Even now after having dinner, I can feel it with a little pain in the lower belly under my belly button (about 60 or so after finishing eating). I've come to think that it could be something possibly bad in my small intestine in those areas, but not sure. All bowel movements are solid, however I do have some mild constipation from time to time. I was thinking maybe a mild form of IBS or something like Chronic Functional Abdominal Pain. I just don't want it to be some sort of tumor, disease or even something such as a cancer like pancreatic. It's hard to diagnose because other than a few chest and back pains here and there, I have no other symptoms. I was thinking that another CT would rule anything major out. The weirdest part also is when my stomach makes noises and rumbles after or before eating, it does in that exact spot in the left lower corner where the discomfort is. Lastly, I noticed my platelet count dropped from 223 to 174 between the four month span of the two blood tests, along with low LDH levels. Thanks again for your help, this is beyond frustrating.
Brief Answer:
It sounds like IBS
Detailed Answer:
Hi Arron,
I understand your concern, but given your young age, cancer is very unlikely.
In general, small bowel cancers are extremely rare. Your symptoms are suggestive of irritable bowel syndrome. I suggest you try a simple over the counter laxative, e.g. movicole.
Let me know if it helps.
