I Have Had Dizziness And Been Off Balance Almost 3
I have had dizziness and been off balance almost 3 weeks now. I’ve tried the Eply exercises among others. I went to an ENT last week and they did a hearing test which was OK and tomorrow I am having the balance test (the ENG)
December 24 Out of nowhere the room started going sideways upside down I was vomiting couldn’t keep water down, I felt like a magnet was holding me to the chair . My legs and my body were so weirdly wobbly that I could not even walk in someways ( even with my husbands help)
Several times I had him hold me sideways (when I needed to get to the bathroom for example) going straight was scarier
It was extremely scary.
December 25 I went to the emergency room. My doctor felt I was getting too dehydrated. They gave me the intravenous , took blood and an MRI.
And everything looked good thank goodness. They sent me home with meclizine HCL 25 for dizziness and ondansetron for nausea
The nausea was not a problem after a few hours . Today I feel a little nauseas
I am very afraid because it seems like the dizziness is getting more often in past day. Last night when we shut the lights off, the room started spinning. We put the light back on and pretty much went away. This is the first time that happened.
I’m under a very enormous about of stress. My sister passed away last February at the age of 61 and I was the one who took care of her. She died of esophageal cancer within seven weeks of diagnosis. My brother is totally incapacitated mentally and has been for several years. He is broke and my two nephews are supposed to be having a nice time in college but they have no money to even buy food at times. My parents are 88 and 92 and i’m pretty good shape. However they need me also because I am the only one who can take care of things. My mother particularly because my father has become very mean to her.
My brothers ex in-laws are asking me to get very involved.
I have been in the hospital twice in the past few years being taken out on a stretcher and overnight in hospital because felt weak , got down on floor and couldn’t get up. In hospital couldn’t walk without help at first.
No real answer.
When I have alcohol or wine I seem to be better. The wobbliness is less??
Overall, the wobbliness is more upsetting than the dizziness. Although the dizziness got worse last night for some reason and this morning. As I’m writing this I just realized I did not have any alcohol or wine yesterday and have been having at least one glass a night . Today a bit dizzier
Any ideas?
Should I be resting ?
I can function , go out, eat,
But when home don’t want to do anything (think just procrastination)
Maybe all this can help bring an answer from you to solve this “mystery”
Thank you
Melanie

Probably an issue related to the inner ear, follow the advice below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your symptoms seem to be related to benign paroxismal vertigo. It is an issue related to the inner ear.
I see through the query that you have undergone several examinations to check the function of the inner ear.
I would like to have more information about the results of the balance test.
Meanwhile,I suggest to continue Meclizine hydrochloride as prescribed by your doctor.
I also suggest to avoid too much salt in the diet.
I recommend some exercises named the Brandt–Daroff exercises. On You Tube you can find videos on how to perform these exercises.
The exercise is typically performed 3 times a day with 5–10 repetitions each time, until symptoms of spinning have resolved for at least 2 days.
Resting is also recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards!

Melanie
I will be waiting for the results.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I will be waiting for the results.
If the issues of the inner ear will be excluded , we can also think about a neurological cause.
In this case, a physical examination by a neurologist is needed.
Take care dear,
