I Have Had Excessive Pooping And Diarrhea Several Times Per

default
Posted on Sun, 17 Feb 2019
Question: I have had excessive pooping and diarrhea several times per day. Sometimes after I eat, sometimes not. My stomach gurgles and then "it" happens. Not every day, but most days. Sometimes the stool is watery and there is a yellow mucus. Sometimes there is gas associated. Sometimes when I urinate, poop comes out. I have a nervous stomach feeling, no pain, no blood, no black or red stool, no fatigue, no fever and very little to no constipation. I was taking antibiotics back in December for 1 week. It seems to have gotten worse once antibiotics ended. I also visited my mom daily in the hospital around that time, wondering if this bacterial. I have a lot of personal stressors which are causing me anxiety. I have always had a history with my bowels but not this bad. I am wondering if this is some kind of imbalance or c-diff. I had a colonoscopy at 35 for unexplained pelvic pain, internal hemroids and fissues were found.

Hello and welcome,

I am sorry your mom was in the hospital, I am sure that that didn't help what is going on with you. As I think you recognize, there are a number of risk factors here for diarrhea. Antibiotics can definitely cause diarrhea by changing the bowel microbiome. Usually this is temporary as the "good bacteria" regenerate. You can try a probiotic, but given that you also were possibly exposed to c.difficile by having been visiting in a hospital, and as this has been going on for more than 3 weeks, I think it would be a good idea to get a stool culture just to make sure.

A couple of things you can try also:
1. Pepto Bismol - this can kills some pathogenic bacteria such as traveler's diarrhea but it won't kill all the germs that can cause an infectious diarrhea
2. A probiotic (taken twice a day) to help recolonize your gut with good bacteria.

I hope this information helps.
