Brief Answer:
There may be connection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

AL amyloidosis may affect the nervous system (central and peripheral ) and may cause problems like yours (neuropathy and other neurological disorders).

Other organs may be affected as well and these include kidneys, heart, and gastrointestinal tract.

Compromise of the gastrointestinal tract may result in bleeding too, so, in conclusion, it is possible for your problems to be connected to AL amyloidosis.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

what about the avascular necrosis ? I understand AL Amyloidsis can interupt blood flow
in the bone and is possibly connected .what is your opinion . the reason for my inquire
is I have all these symptoms and I'am a Vietnam Vet that was exposed to Agent Orange
for over a year in service. AL Amylodisis is on their list of diseases that has been proven to
be associated with agent orange. My question is what are the chances my health issues
are connected to my agent orange exposure.

Your opinion would be appreciated .

Brief Answer:
Very high chances of such connection.

Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.

Agent orange is found to compromise the bone marrow function, so, chances of connection between agent orange and your health issues are very high.

Avascular necrosis also may be linked to AL amyloidosis.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to discuss with me if you have further questions.

If I were to be tested for AL Amylodisis , is this a disease that is difficult to diagnose .

If the test came back inconclusive , would a Dr. be able to say although the test is not positive on one hand
but on the other hand , we can't rule it out as to weather the paitent actually has the disease or not.

Brief Answer:
with the right tests diagnosis should be correctly confirmed or excluded.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

The diagnosis of AL amyloidosis requires demonstration of amyloid in tissue and demonstration of a plasma cell dyscrasia.

Once a tissue diagnosis of amyloidosis has been established, confirmation of AL disease requires demonstration of a plasma cell dyscrasia by a bone marrow biopsy.

These tests confirm or exclude the diagnosis with a high degree of confidence.

So, if these tests result negative, it is unlikely for one to suffer from AL amyloidosis.

Hope this helped.

Greetings.
