I Have Had Stomach Pain For The Past 24 Hours.
Question: I have had stomach pain for the past 24 hours. It is sharp pain. It hurts when I push down on my stomach. It feels bloated. My bowel movements have been fine, so I don't think it is related to something that I ate. No vomiting.
I'm not sure if I should go to the hospital or make an appointment with my doctor.
Brief Answer:
Go to the hospital
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think you should go to the hospital.
You see , from the message, I am not sure in exactly which part of the abdomen is the pain located .
But the other description of having pain on pressing the abdomen, known medically as tenderness, is crucial.
There are few conditions in abdomen that cause tenderness-
pancreatitis
appendicitis
cholelithiasis
peritonitis
to mention a few.
And all these are in need of Emergency medicines.
So I won't recommend waiting for your doctor's appointment. I suggest going to the hospital.
A scan of the abdomen ( ultrasound or MRI) and blood tests like amylase lipase will make the picture more clear.
If you can possibly describe the location and type of pain in more detail , I may be able to suggest a better and more precise diagnosis. But I think it would still need you to go to the hospital.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible.
Feel free to contact me if you need any further information or clarification.
Best wishes.
