I Have Had Weakness In The Legs For 5 Years

default
Posted on Sun, 28 Oct 2018
Question: I have had weakness in the legs for 5 years and getting worse. Walk leaning over and shortness of breath. 3 neurologists have found no diseases. Difficulty walking and extreme fatigue. I now have metastatic breast cancer and am on Faslodex after cancer surgeries. Could anything from the surgeries cause this? The support mesh for a failed reconstruction was not taken out. 1st surgery 15 years ago.

Brief Answer:
suppressed immunity with faslodex is the prime factor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my clinical experience, the weakness of legs and short breath is likely due to
suppressed immunity level with possible lack of vitamins and essential elements.

An important consideration of side effects of Faslodex is to be there which causes many
of the features including 1. possibility of blood clots ( particularly in legs and lungs )
via decrease platelets 2. low levels of calcium in blood.

Surgery has no concern with these presentation.

* My guidelines at present

- Discuss the need of certain laboratory tests and doppler ultrasound of the lower limb to
check for the peripheral circulation when you visit your doctor next time.
- Maintain hydration with plenty of liquids.
- Consume balanced nutritious diet with plenty of green leafy veg, cereals, pulses,
legumes.

- Intake of multivitamin tablet on daily basis.
- Regular walking, assisted physiotherapy.
- YOGA will support best for lung assistance and improve oxygenation.
- Keep blood sugar, BP under control.
- Avoid smoking or alcohol if consuming.

- Avoid stress, anxiety.
- Manage to have regular sound sleep of 7-8 hours.

Hope this information will help you.
Do feel free to discuss further doubts.

Wish you great health ahead.
Regards.

It was good to know that Faslodex can suppress the immune system. However my white cells etc. are normal. I have since discovered that I may have a rare glycogen storage disease.(AMPD deficiency) I am taking a compound with d-ribose which seems to help so far. I have known there is some underlying cause that has been undiscovered. Should I be talking to a neurologist now? As to your other suggestions, I already am doing most all of them with supplements except Yoga. Thank you kindly

Brief Answer:
do follow up with neurologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Blipearl
Thanks for the follow up.

Immunity can be functioning low despite of normal WBC counts, which is only a part of the system to reflect it.

Still a consultation with neurologist can reveal more extra details over the issue for sure.

Wish you great day and health.
Take care.
