Posted on Mon, 3 Aug 2020
Question: I have inflammation on one side of my throat, past my tonsils and on one side of my uvula. I have a chronic condition (AERD), and as a result am solely a mouth breather due to obstructive nasal polyps. I've noticed this pain on occasion when I wake up, and today was the first day i looked in my throat and saw the inflammation.

Brief Answer:
It can be caused by allergy, corticosteroids are needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

It would be better if you upload a photo of your throat in reports for me in order that I can give you a better opinion.
Also tell me if you are having elevated body temperature or fever.
If you have fever or elevated body temperature you may have an infection of throat and tonsils.
Also there is a possibility that your throat may have inflammation due to allergies and congestion.
I think you may need to use corticosteroids either tablets or injections to reduce inflammation.
Also taking antihistamines may help you.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

I just uploaded a photo (I think). I have no fever and am currently on antihistamines as well as a variety of steroids to treat me AERD symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Allergy and sinusitis may be the cause of it.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I see the picture.you attached and the back of your throat is red and swollen causing pharyngitis. I think that sinusitis and allergies may be the cause of your red and swollen uvula and back of tonsil.
You may need to inject steroids despite the ones that you are taking.
Also do saline water gargling.
Continue the antihistamines you are taking.
