Question: I have noticed I get hoarse after talking on the phone after a short period of time. I have mentioned my pancreas cancer surgery in January 2018, and I worry every time something happens that causes me to think I am getting a recurrence. Please advise

Brief Answer:
Certainly not a recurrence!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully and understand your worries. Hoarse voice after talking is more in line with fatigue as opposed to cancer. Just like a chorister can get a hoarse voice as sustained effort, that might be the case with you. If it were cancer, this will be a permanent worry and not only after speaking. I will like to know for how long this lasts after speaking on the phone. Also, are there any other worries such as weight loss, nocturnal fever, fatigue and loss of appetite?

I hope this guides and helps. Am here and ready to address further specific concerns or request for more explanation as you deem necessary. Until then, I wish you so well.

Dr Ivo, on July 24th I had my every 4 month review. My CT scan was very good and my lab work was also very good. I have not had a good appetite for over 2 years now, but I did start putting on some weight until recently when I noticed some weight loss. I also take Dilaudid at least 3 times a day. Could this narcotic effect the appetite. No fevers and I work out twice a week at an intense level, for my condition.

Brief Answer:
This is not cancer!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Having reviewed all the information provided, this is very unlikely to be any form of vocal cord cancer. Narcotics wouldn't cause loss of appetite for the most part. The fact that you are now putting on more weight is a very good sign. Loss of appetite is often related to cancer drugs and radiotherapy.

I hope this alleviates your fears and helps.. I wish you well and always available to address any concerns you may have.
