I Have Pain In My Left Index Finger. It Started

Question: I have pain in my left index finger. It started a month back. It is getting worse. The middle joint is very painful to touch or if I try to bend the finger. There is some swelling. I tried to soak my hand but it did not help. I tried various muscle pain and arthritis creams . Over the counter products did not help.
I tried taping it to immobilize it and when not in use the pain was somewhat reduced. I am a healthy 70 year old man , not over weight and have pre diabetes very well controlled and monitored daily. I take only Zyrtec for allergies and 1 prosaic daily.

Brief Answer:
To rule out Gout
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
i would suggest you to get a serum uric acid level and a Xray of the Hand done. These tests will allow to rule out Gout and arthritis. Both of these can produce symptoms like you have.
Meanwhile do continue applying arthritis creams and take Tab Motrin 400mg once after food when the pain is more.
Please revert back with the reports, I shall opine specifically then.
Wish you good health.
