I Have Pain In Upper Back And Neck. Sometimes Feels
Muscular pain is a common cause- specific advices below
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome at "Ask a doctor" service,
Pain in the upper back and neck that also radiates on the back of the head, is very likely due to muscles that run in the area. This is the case especially if the pain gets worse on movement or touch.
Ice and heat are recommended to be tried to see which helps you better alleviate the pain. On the other hand, Ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours after food and paracetamol 500 mg together with it may help you feel even better.
If you have stomach problems and can not tolerate the use of oral ibuprofen, you can take paracetamol as advised above and use some diclofenac ointment on the hurting area a few times a day together with local packs.
Sometimes exercises might be helpful to relax the hurting muscles which many times are in spasm. In this case, a physiotherapist might be helpful, especially if your pain is lasting for a while or seems to come back.
Any worsening of the pain or no improvement in 1-2 weeks or if you develop any new symptoms a visit with the doctor is warranted.
I hope this is helpful and answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case more assistance is needed.
