I Have Severe Swelling Of The Feet And Ankles Even
Question: I have severe swelling of the feet and ankles even tho I am taking 40Mg of Lasix daily. The heart specialist did an echo cardiagram and found no significent changes from 5 years ago. I take Diltiazem 120 Mg daily that the lasix has always counteracted the swelling for. Its like the lasix has quit working. Is this possible? My skin feels like it will break open if this is not corrected. Could I have your thoughts on this please?
Brief Answer:
Kindly refer to the detailed answer below
Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma’am
After carefully going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that if 40 mg of Lasix is not helping you much in fluid retention then you need to do two things
1. Increase Lasix dose , Lasix 40mg at 8am and Lasix 20 mg at 4 pm in evening.
2. Get a fresh KFT done
3. Upload your ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY report.
4. What is your blood pressure stay like?
5. What is your liquid intake per day ?
Kindly get back to me with required information for proper opinions
Kind Regards

Dr. Portap,
In regards to your questions, I will answer to the best of my ability:
I am unable to download my Echo Cardiogram due to the ignorance of not being computer smart. (I am 80 yrs. old), however I can pass on to you the conclusions of it.
Normal LV chamber size with normal global systolic function; the visually estimated EF is 55%
normal RV chamber size with normal global systolic function
Moderate tricuspid regurgitation
Mild pulmonary hypertension
Compared to the study of 11-17-2014, tricuspid regitation is now moderate and there is now mild pulmonary HTN
My blood pressure usually runs 130 over 60 or 70 on medication
I only drink water when I'm thirsty or to take meds
Hope this information is complete enough for further answers to my problem

Brief Answer:
Hello again
Detailed Answer:
Apologies for delayed response.
As per your latest echo report described by you your cardiac function is quite good the it will not cause that intense lower extremity swelling which you are experiencing.
The other possibilities that can lead to this sort of swelling is decreased albumin levels or deranged kidney function. So it’s highly advisable that you should get a kidney function test and serum albumin levels checked and consult your primary physician with the reports.
I hope this information will guide you properly.
Kind Regards
