Question: I have shooting pain in my chest on the right side from time to time. It’s hard to breathe, I have fallen and got nauseated. I also wake up not being able to breathe multiple times a week and cough out my lungs, which feel like they are on fire? What is happening to me?

Brief Answer:
you need to get evaluated promptly...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concern...

Well, this present symptoms could be due to musculoskeletal trauma, lung injury, Pleurisy (inflammation of the coverings of the lung due to some underlying respiratory tract infection or fluid accumulation) or some other pathologies...

First of all, you need to get examined thoroughly. It'd be better if you refer to the nearest ER/urgent care for a prompt check-up along with a few investigations i.e. a hemogram, a chest X-ray, sputum gram stain, culture sensitivity analysis should be performed. A CT-scan of the brain should also be performed to assess any internal injury.

Not being able to breathe on multiple occasions, nauseated after such a traumatic fall needs to be examined without any further delay. Proper hemodynamics (pulse, Blood pressure, EKG, oxygen saturation, respiration etc) monitoring should be assessed in that condition.

For temporary symptomatic relief you may try the following:

-Start taking some steam inhalation twice to thrice daily, it'll help as a decongestant and ease the cough and clear the secretions/drainage...

-You may take a painkiller such as ACETAMINOPHEN 650mg (eg. Tylenol) up to thrice daily after some food for the next 3-4 days and observe the progress.

Please don't panic, but please don't delay any longer, and get yourself checked up in the first place. Appropriate management can be initiated based on the findings thereafter...

Let me know if I can assist you further...

Take Care
Kind Regards
