Question: I have taken Synthroid for over 20 years. I have a new doctor who switched me to Thyroid NP 5 months ago. Initially I felt fine but my family is saying that they are seeing issues with attention and focus. I am asking a question that I asked less than an hour ago. From my reseach on the internet I think this medication change could be the problem.

Brief Answer:
Should probably switch back to Synthroid

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor.

I usually use Synthroid, so I do not have as much experience with Thyroid NP, but it sounds like if you have had a change since changing medications, I would suspect the medication is the cause. I would talk with your doctor about this, and likely get your TSH and other thyroid hormones checked, and discuss switching back to Synthroid, since it sounds like you were doing fine while on that medication.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
