I Have Tested Negative 2.7 Years After A Encounter That
Question: I have tested negative 2.7 years after a encounter that I am sure the person had HIV when we had sex as I found out afterwards they where positive. I tested at 15 months at a clinic that did a Oraquick oral swab and it was negative and then like I stated earlier I did another one at 2.7 years and it was also negative but with these all being oral swabs I am afraid that I have missed the infection. I recently did blood work and my triglycerides are 401 and I was told that is a sign of having HIV so this has sent me into a scare. I also wake up with asleep left side of face and both arms and have developed burning of the feet.
Brief Answer:
Not related to HIV.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Haroldf,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
You had tested negative after 2.7 years of exposure then it is 100% reliable and conclusive with any test method. High triglycerides level is not at all the symptom of HIV infection, it is just showing high lipid level in the blood. Consult your physician to isolate its cause and follow the treatment as per the advice.
If you are mentally not satisfied with the OraQuick oral swab result you can go for 4th generation HIV Duos test and the result will definitely come negative so just calm down your self, forget the episode and live your life normally. For any further query feel free to ask me again any time.
Thank You

If figured with having high triglycerides and now showing signs of Peripheral neuropathy that it must be hiv.
I trust the test until my say my symptoms say something else. If I never tested and gave you that story would you think I am positive?

Brief Answer:
No, without report also I would say you are negative.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Haroldf,
Welcome back and thanks for the follow-up.
Even though you had not shared the test result then also I would tell you are not positive with the symptoms and sign like peripheral neuropathy, high triglyceride etc. so you can trust the result without any doubt because you are surely safe and risk-free from HIV.
If still any doubt is there please feel free to ask me again.
Thank You

I want to believe but all this seems so coincidental. With Peripheral neuropathy the main thing the internet states is HIV.
As you can tell I am really struggling and do appreciate your feedback as I try to believe what is written.

Brief Answer:
Its not only HIV, other causes would also be there.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Haroldf,
Welcome once again.
HIV infection is not the only cause for peripheral nueropathy, it can be due to vitamin deficiency, diabetes, alcoholism, bone marrow disorders and many more so consult your physician to isolate its cause and follow the treatment regime. Calm down your self and move on because you are not at risk of getting HIV or any other STDs.
Thank You
