Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using 'Ask A Doctor' service.

Blood in the urine (hematuria), can be due to different possible causes such as:

(1) Infection of the urinary tract. The urinary tract consists of the bladder, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and prostate in males.

Infection can cause blood but would normally be associated with other symptoms such as frequency or discomfort on urination. Infection can be checked with a urine sample at your doctor's office.

Antibiotics are effective for treatment.

(2) Stone in the urinary tract- normally associated with intense cramping pain.
If it is small, using a lot of fluids is enough, but if large, then additional treatment needed
A stone is diagnosed based on history and also ultrasound

(3) Trauma

(4) Prostate enlargement (in males) or infection

(5) It can also occur in persons with a history of a bleeding disorder or using medications that cause bleeding such as medications to reduce clotting eg warfarin, Xarelto, etc

(6) Kidney disease- some persons with a history of kidney disease can have bleeding

It would be best to be seen. The urine needs to be assessed to determine if any infection is likely present, your doctor would also need to look at your overall symptoms
Examination of the abdomen would be needed

If indicated, you may need an ultrasound to take a look at the urinary tract.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions.

Regards
