I Hurt My Knee 5 Weeks Ago. I Went To
Question: I hurt my knee 5 weeks ago. I went to my family physician he said it was more
than likely a knee sprain. I didn't go and have an X-ray but it isn't getting any better. I could barely walk downs steps this morning I have been a knee brace for a little over a week now thinking that would help. I have a sharp pain and sometimes popping in my knee when I walk not all the time but on a regular bases. I have tried to stay off of it as much as possible. It is getting
any better also with the sharp pain I have knee weakness....

Brief Answer:
rest, ice compress, topical and oral anti inflammatory medication
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
With pain ongoing for 5 weeks and limiting mobility, an x ray would be important at this time to see if there is any significant bony injury that needs to be addressed.
In addition to the imaging, you may also want to consider the use of oral anti inflammatory as well as the use of an ice compress 3 to 4 times a day. Ice has an ant inflammatory effect as well.
The use of these anti inflammatory methods should help to dampen your pain.
Oral anti inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, naproxe, celebrex. Topical anti inflammatory such as voltaren gel, can also be used as well.
Without the imaging it would not be possible to definitely say what is happening but the compress along with the oral and topical meds, would help to relieve your discomfort
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
