I Just Had A Failed Hip Arthroscopy . They Could

Posted on Sat, 17 Nov 2018
Question: I just had a failed hip arthroscopy. They could not access my joint because my hip sockets were too tight and too deep. They shaved my cam and pincer impingements but could not get to my labral tear. They made space for it and sealed it the best they could. So my question is, since my bones were shaved and my hip socket was too tight and too deep would I still be able to have an anterior approach hip replacement.

Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Hip replacement can be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The tight and deep hip sockets can cause a failed arthroscopy but a hip replacement can be done as it is an open procedure. Regular physiotherapy and oral muscle relaxants can help in decreasing the hip tightness.
In case the pain is persistent then it is best to proceed with the hip replacement after consulting with your orthopedician.
I hope this answers your query.

So the anterior approach hip replacement would not be an issue due to the tight and deep hip sockets?

Brief Answer:
Can be done by an expert.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Anterior approach hip replacement can be done by an expert orthopedician and it is better to discuss the best approach for replacement with your orthopedician who has done the arthroscopy as he will be a better judge as he has the benefit of proper examination.
Hope my answer is helpful.
