Hello and welcome to "Ask A Doctor"

I have gone through your query and can certainly understand your concern,

Before I can guide you any further, I would like to know a few related details:

- Any history of chronic illness like diabetes, hypertension?
- Any intake of medications like diuretics?
- Any associated symptoms like lower abdominal pain, burning while urination etc?

Polyuria can be a symptom of deranged blood sugar levels.
It is quite normal to have leg cramps following excessive urination due to the probable loss of sodium or potassium through urine.

I would suggest you to drink lime juice with some salt and sugar mixed together to replenish the lost electrolytes.

Kindly revert back with your details,
Regards

No history of diabetes, urinary pain, diuretcs or meds of any kind..... but I did test for diabetes previously as it has happened before. Since I wrote you it was suggested to me, something similar to what you were saying; that I was dehydrated from many hours out in the sun, I drank lots of water to try to rehydrate, but if my sodium and potassium levels were depleted, the water would not stay in my system, and would still end up dehydrated.

So I consumed some extra potassium and some salty foods and , the electrolyte replenishment seemed to resolve the excessive urination, and the retainage of the water ended the leg cramps...

Hello again,
Thanks for writing back,

Glad to know that you are perfectly alright now,

That probably should be the cause, due to excessive water intake leading to polyuria, and thereby loss of some minerals.

In case of similar incidents in the future, you can buy any OTC oral rehydration sachets and have it with the water you take, when you feel dehydrated from sun exposure.

I hope this helps,

Wishing you good health,

Regards
